About
The objective of this course is to advance the student’s knowledge in multiple areas of bloodstain pattern analysis so that all of the personnel involved in the investigation will understand the value of bloodstain evidence and how to effectively apply it throughout the investigation. It is designed to bring a cohesive understanding of the cause, effect, and implications of various bloodstains and patterns for both the Crime Scene Technicians documenting the scene and the Detectives investigating the crime. The course will show technicians and investigators how to work together to properly take the bloodstain evidence from the scene to the courtroom.
Upon completion of this course students should:
- Be able to recognize, document, collect, preserve, and examine bloodstain pattern evidence
- Understand how bloodstain pattern analysis interrelates to the investigation conducted by Detectives
- Be acquainted with the practical aspects of bloodstain pattern analysis
- Be able to select bloodstains for DNA analysis of the greatest probative value
- Understand how to prepare the evidence for presentation in court
